For years we have had a wonderful relationship with the Out of the Woods shelter. We have provided space, funding and volunteer effort to make sure this vital organization served a significant need in our community. We will be celebrating that history together, sometime in September. Look for a notice of that event.
However, despite all our contributions, the funding for shelters such as Out of the Woods is drying up. As a result, we have mutually agreed to terminate our agreement with the Out of the Woods board by the end of August.
Now we need to decide what to do with the B&G Annex (the little white house) and the property on which it stands. In the long term, we have two general decisions to make. First, how we will serve the needs of the homeless in the next few years: Will we work with existing shelters, or create a new one; will we focus on families with children or serve other populations; what will Books, Brownies, and Beans fund in the future or how will it continue? Second, will our property be useful to our ministry to the homeless, or will it need to serve some other purpose? It will probably take months to sort through all our options. Please think and talk about these issues and share your ideas with leaders of the church.
