Member to Member Care

We give help to one another and to the surrounding community. Contact someone from one of these groups if you need assistance or would like to share your time and energy with others.

Pastoral Care Team

The Pastoral care team is a team of volunteers who offer a ministry of presence and support. The Pastoral Care Team extends the care of the congregation to those who are experiencing major life changes, offering confidential, supportive care to members and friends of OUUC. The Team works together with and is an extension of the minister.

Pastoral Care is confidential, but information is shared with the Minister and the Pastoral Care Team, as appropriate. Pastoral Care may be helpful when experiencing major life changes, such as birth of a child, adoption, loss of job, divorce, or retirement, death of a family member or friend, health problems, illness, hospitalization, isolation due to age, mobility, disability, or other factors.

Emergency financial assistance may be available to OUUC members and friends, and community members as funds are available. These funds are given at the discretion of the Minister. Please contact Rev. Mary directly to request financial support at minister@ouuc.org

Caring Friends

Caring Friends is an opt-in email list which enables us to let one another know when we need help with practical things like transportation,  doing errands,  having meals delivered, etc.

To ask for help from Caring Friends: contact the Caring Friends contact person at caringfriends@ouuc.org.

Caring Friends is also an opportunity for each of us to respond to a request for help when we can. It’s a way that each of us can take care of those in our congregation.

Addiction and Recovery Ministry: Recovery Dharma

Recovery Dharma is a trauma-informed, peer-based support network inspired by the Buddhist principles of the Four Noble Truths and the Eightfold Path.  Recovery Dharma welcomes all addictions, whether it’s substance addictions (drugs/alcohol/prescription) or process addictions (everything else—food, games, lust, love, technology, gambling, people, or any habit or repetitive behavior that causes suffering.)  Recovery Dharma believes anyone can transcend their suffering and recover from all types of addictions. This is a community and program of empowerment and doesn’t ask us to believe in anything other than our own potential to change and heal.

A Recovery Dharma sangha (community) called “No Rain, No Rainbows” is meeting at OUUC every Wednesday from 5:30 – 7 pm, and it’s open to anyone who’s interested in exploring these concepts with us.

Caregivers

Caregivers is a monthly gathering of OUUC members and friends who are the primary caregivers of a family member or loved one. Meeting on the second Thursday of each month, from 10:00 – 11:30 am, members share their stories, learn of resources available to caregivers, and provide emotional and spiritual support to each other during this time in their lives. New members are always welcome; Contact Rev. Carol McKinley.

If you would like the Minister or other support person to know your wishes if you should become ill or incapacitated you can complete the Personal Care and Support Record that will be kept on file at the church.

Each of us has different desires concerning our personal care and support in a time of crisis. The following questions are designed to help you plan for needs that may arise and to let us know how we can help.

If I experience loss in my life or if I am ill, hospitalized, or incapacitated, I would like to know that care and support are available from congregation caregivers. To preserve my energies at that time, I would like to name a member of my family, a friend, or a person in the congregation to act as a “doorkeeper” to those who will want to help.
