Lately, I turn to the words and images that offer hope and inspiration. This week I am reminded of the last words of Representative John Lewis.  A man of honor and courage, he committed his life in service to justice and the common good. I have drawn on these words often since they were published a month ago and I am certain I will listen to them in the months to come.
Rep. Lewis wrote his final essay in the last days of his life and requested that they be published by the New York Times on the day of his funeral, which was July 30, 2020. The essay is titled “Together, You Can Redeem the Soul of Our Nation.”
You can hear the words of Rep. John Lewis read by his friend Morgan Freeman here.
You can read Rep. Lewis’s essay in The New York Times here.
May these words offer you hope and inspiration, and may they fuel our work for justice and the common good.
Blessings on your week,
Rev. Mary
