OUUC is seeking a part-time Business Manager as the first of two positions that will assume the work of Darlene Sarkela, church administrator when she retires in the new year.

Purpose: The Business Manager is the lead for OUUC’s Resource Ministry (administrative support, facilities management, maintenance, and safety). They provide administrative support to the Minister and Board on financial and human resource matters and collaborate with the congregation to support OUUC’s ministry.
Responsibilities:
Manage financial functions
Develop and administer budgets for the OUUC office, IT, and communications
Assist Minister and Finance Consulting Team in developing the overall operating budget-
Attend monthly review meeting of the financial reports
Act as the liaison to bookkeeper and payroll services
Oversee maintaining and carrying out routine financial procedures, including approval of financial transactions
Ensure that annual reports are completed as needed; e.g., to the Department of Revenue (property tax exemption and sales tax), Secretary of State (non-profit corporation), UUA Annual Report, Data security annual report (for online giving)
Manage Human Resource functions
Develop, maintain and communicate operating procedures to staff
Handle administrative personnel functions such as recordkeeping and enrollment in and changes to employee benefits-
Supports the minister/Chief of Staff in employee relations issues as necessary-
Stay current on human resource matters, UUA and State benefits and requirements
Performs background checks for employees and volunteers in accordance with OUUC policy
Manage the Office Assistant and Facilities Manager
Hire, train, and manage the Office Assistant and Facilities Manager positions.
Back-up the Office Assistant as needed, including staffing the office, newsletter development and distribution, and some website management
Back up the Facilities Manager as needed.
Ensure the Office Assistant maintains and safeguards confidential records
Recruit, train and manage volunteers related to the Resource Ministry
Manage daily operations of the office
Assess the business needs of the congregation and make suggestions for improvements of systems, processes and software with the intent to improve effectiveness
Assist with the administrative functions of outreach and membership
Act as the administrator of office support applications (including, but not limited to: Realm, Office 365 Administrator, Divvy, Clergy Financial, and MightyCall)
Acquire (purchase and/or lease) and maintain office equipment and needed utilities (phone system, internet, accounting, payroll, etc.)
Be an active member of Association of UU Administrators
Position Requirements:
Understand and affirm Unitarian Universalist purposes, principles, sources, history, and traditions
Knowledge of and/or ability to learn financial management skills, such as preparing, monitoring and managing a budget, and working with a bookkeeper
Knowledge of and/or ability to learn basic human resource administrator skills, such as enrollment in UUA benefits, and knowing and monitoring federal and state legal requirements for employees
Technology proficiency (including, but not limited to: PC hardware & software, phone system, Office 365, Realm, YouTube, Zoom) and ability to learn new systems as needed
Ability and willingness to learn new computer software and hardware-
Able to be onsite at least weekly
Consistent and reliable internet access to stay connected when working remotely
Consistently pass an initial and periodic criminal background checks
*OUUC employees work a flexible work week, so hours will vary over the course of a week and from week to week. The Business Manager must have the ability to work both on-site and off-site as determined by the congregation’s needs and in collaboration with the minister, coworkers, and volunteers. Work hours will include weekend and evening hours, with Sunday morning hours expected weekly. Work hours also include some holidays such as Christmas Eve and Easter. Benefits include paid time off as it is accrued.
