Music and Choir
Music is an integral part of worship and life at OUUC. Led by Troy Arnold Fisher, our Music Director, our vibrant and joyful music ministry includes the OUUC Choir, a weekly group voice class, and occasional congregational cabaret evenings to build community and support causes that matter to us.
The choir joins us in Sunday worship services about twice a month through the church year, sharing a range of secular and sacred music — both familiar favorites and new works from folk, opera, musical theatre, pop, and other genres along the way. They also present a Winter Holiday Concert and a Spring Concert that are highly anticipated by both our congregation and broader community members, and participate in other musical exchanges across the region. Members of the choir have even traveled internationally to share a week of music and friendship with our partner church in Kissolymos, Romania.
We also enjoy welcoming guest musicians from within our congregation, the larger Olympia-area community, and beyond.
Ways to get involved:
Join the OUUC Choir.
Joining the choir is easy, and all are welcome. We rehearse Wednesday evenings, from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Feel free to check in with Troy ahead of time, or just show up and we’ll be glad to see you. You don’t need to be a member of the congregation to sing in the choir. We don’t require auditions, formal musical training, or a long-term commitment — only a love of singing, willingness to participate in enough rehearsals to get to know the music, and a readiness to work hard and have fun.
Come to Saturday morning voice class.
Our Music Director leads a drop-in group voice class most Saturday mornings, at 10:00 am. We meet both in person and on Zoom to work on vocal technique and grow our knowledge of both music and history as we sing our way through all generations and genres of song. It’s a chance to sing your heart out in an always-supportive environment. Come join the fun!
